Sky Jetta, the dynamic DJ who's taken the music world by storm, shares her journey from Detroit to Chicago and Atlanta, shaping a unique sound that resonates across genres and cultures. Mature Magazine dives deep into her influences, challenges, and the relentless drive that propels her forward.

Sky Jetta's musical odyssey began in Detroit, a city synonymous with grit and hustle. Her transition to Chicago and, eventually, Atlanta was more than a change of scenery; it was a transformative journey that honed her craft and defined her musical identity. "Detroit ingrained the hustle in me," Sky recalls. "Moving to Atlanta to reach my goals felt almost easy in comparison."

Navigating these cultural landscapes, Sky absorbed the essence of each city's music scene. From the deep, gritty beats of Detroit to the soulful rhythms of the South, she forged an edgy and adaptive sound. "I got to know what southern people listened to outside of the radio, same with Chicago. Moving around curated the Sky Jetta of today."

Sky's father, a former DJ himself, was pivotal in her musical development. His mentorship, initially subtle, blossomed into a profound influence. "My dad introduced me to music. Listening to him sparked my love for art. He supported me using his gear to practice, and once he saw I was serious, his support solidified."

Sky's journey was not without its hurdles as a woman in a male-dominated industry. Yet, she remains undeterred. "I stay focused. There were moments when my male counterparts didn't take me seriously, but I made them think otherwise. I bring more to the art than just being a 'female DJ.'"

Sky's performances are renowned for their genre-blending and unexpected twists. Her creative process is intuitive and dynamic. "I treat every performance differently, curating each set based on what I 'think' the crowd would be like and adding my own sauce. Shock value is always part of my sets."

Collaborations with major corporate brands and performances at notable festivals mark significant milestones in her career. One standout moment was DJing a televised set with Michigan Central, playing for 20,000 people and more worldwide. "Coming home and playing a set full of Detroit techno felt like a dream. Sharing the stage with Detroit legends like Diana Ross, Eminem, and Big Sean was insane."

Her recent collaboration with Balmain exemplifies Sky's ambition to blend her passions for music and fashion. "Working with Balmain was amazing. Being recognized for my work was an honor. The team was cool and chill, and I even attended their Paris Fashion Week show."

Staying authentic in an industry rife with pressures is a challenge Sky embraces. "It's hard to stick to being 100% me, especially musically. But being myself has earned me much more success and respect."

Sky's journey is not just about music; it's a path of personal growth and maturity. "Mature, to me, is the final stage of realization—being aware, understanding, graceful, and patient. Over the years, I've learned to do things with poise, wait, and trust the process. It's a new stage in life, so I treat it as such."

In Sky Jetta, we find a trailblazer who redefines what it means to be mature in the modern world. Her story is one of resilience, authenticity, and a relentless pursuit of passion. This narrative resonates with Mature Magazine's mission to spark curiosity and creativity through impactful dialogue and imagery.

Mature Magazine: Sky, you moved from Detroit to Chicago, then to Atlanta, to pursue your DJ career. Can you share more about how each city influenced your musical style and career development?

Sky Jetta: Being from Detroit, I was born into the hustle. So later down the line moving to Atlanta to reach my goals, things felt easy. I was able to shift within culture— like knowing what southern people listened to outside of the radio. Same with Chicago. Moving around, I curated the Sky Jetta of today— I adapted the gritty and edgy vibes of each of these places to cultivate my sound.

Mature Magazine: Your father, a former DJ, significantly influenced your career. How did his mentorship shape your music passion and approach to DJing?

Sky Jetta: My dad is the one who introduced me into music— listening to music with him really inspired my love for the art. He supported the idea of me learning the craft of DJing. I'd use his gear to practice with mostly none of his input until he saw I was serious about continuing this journey.

Mature Magazine: As a woman in the male-dominated music industry, what are some of your biggest challenges, and how have you overcome them?

Sky Jetta: I just stay focused— it's been moments in this industry where some of my male counterparts didn't take me as seriously, but I made them think otherwise. I'm not just a "female DJ", I bring more to the art than just that.

Mature Magazine: Your sets are known for blending a variety of genres and artists. Can you walk us through your creative process when preparing for a performance?

Sky Jetta: I typically treat every performance in a different way— meaning I curate each set is based on what I "think" the crowd would be like, and I add my own sauce to that. I tend to always add shock value to my sets.

Mature Magazine: Collaborating with major corporate brands and playing at notable festivals must have been significant milestones. Which collaboration or event stands out the most, and why?

Photographer: Denis Larance

Sky Jetta: Most recently I had the honor of DJing a televised set with Michigan Central for 20K people in attendance and more worldwide. Coming home and playing a set full of Detroit techno music felt like a dream. Also, to be apart of an extraordinary line up with other Detroit legends, such as Diana Ross, Eminem, Big sean and more was insane.

Mature Magazine: How did your recent collaboration with Balmain come about, and what was the experience like working with such an iconic fashion brand?

Sky Jetta: Honestly it was an amazing experience. My goal is to blend both my passions for music and fashion, so being recognized for such was an honor. Plus the team was so cool and chill, I was even invited out to attend their show for Paris Fashion Week earlier this year.

Mature Magazine: As an artist who values authenticity, how do you stay true to yourself and your music while navigating the industry's pressures?

Sky Jetta: Not going to lie, it was very hard to stick to being 100% me at all times. Musically especially. But recently i've realized being me has earned me much more success and respect.

Mature Magazine: What does being mature mean to you, and how do you think your experiences and career has contributed to your personal growth and maturity?

Sky Jetta: Mature to me is the final stage of realization. Like, being aware, understanding, being graceful, taking your time. Over the years in this industry I learned how to do things with a sense of poise. Wait, and trust the process.  It's a new stage in life— so treat it as such.
